Diablo II on consoles is controlled differently

Diablo II was built for PC when it first came out in 2000. But it was released for consoles in the year 2000. Diablo II: Resurrected, the action-RPG classic is making its way to consoles in the beginning. D2R Items turns out that Blizzard required lots of effort into the game to ensure that the console experience stood up to the game's famed status without altering the concept for the game.

In a brand new blog post that explains what the Diablo II: Resurrected team was looking at how to adapt the game for consoles the design director Robert Gallerani explained how decisions taken regarding the game's playability on consoles were a way to focus "on the different players than the PC game's audience." Because many console gamers be more familiar with Diablo III on consoles, Diablo III, Blizzard needed to ensure that Diablo II similarly approachable.

One way Diablo II: Resurrected on consoles achieves this is to take an inspiration from Diablo III's guidebook regarding how it handles display and mapping capabilities.

"In the first Diablo II, a player had two buttons: right and left mouse clicks," Gallerini writes. "To gain access to many different capabilities, players use hotkeys that quickly change the mapping of those two keys. When using the help of a controller, this could be changed to not remap rather, to let buttons directly enable the capabilities. Then the abilities are displayed similarly similar to Diablo III, with an area on the lower section in the HUD."

In terms of moving, Diablo II on consoles is controlled differently than its PC counterpart. On PC players click an area and the game sends their character to that location. However, on consoles Blizzard desired that players allow direct control over their character's movement using the thumbstick. Blizzard did this by disabling the game's pathfinding system for consoles. This allows players to move cheap diablo 2 resurrected items in ways "the game could never have been able to guide you prior to." This is what makes it much easier to stay away from enemies.
