Team members at Blizzard North was able to rebuild a good portion of the assets and code from the version of D2R Items that players took home to play. However, the source code and assets were apparently lost, meaning Blizzard might have a hard to create an actual Diablo Remaster today.

One of the pre-BlizzCon 2019 rumours was that Blizzard was planning to announce a Diablo Remaster, but that didn't happen. However, the company did announce Diablo IV to much celebration from the fans after the disappointing response to Diablo Immortal announcement a year prior.

The Schaefer brothers and Brevik created the first Diablo at their independent studio Condor, which Blizzard purchased shortly before the launch of the original Diablo back in the year 1996. Erich Schaefer told me that the buyout could not have come at more appropriate time since Condor was in dire financial difficulties. He noted that the studio was just scraping by and didn't have enough money to pay some of its taxes.

The original Diablo exceeded all expectations. The Schaefer brothers predicted it selling 20.000 copies that would be enough to create a sequel. The game actually sold more copies than that, and helped define the ARPG genre that is highly well-known today.

The Schaefers and Brevik left Blizzard following Diablo began, and they went on to create new studios, and also work on new projects. Brevik held a number of positions at different studios in his career after Blizzard. One of his most prestigious new positions was head of Gazillion Entertainment, which made Marvel Heroes. He then started his own company, Graybeard Games, which is currently working on an ARPG called It Lurks Below. Just this week The game was revealed to be available for Xbox One, in addition to PC.

On Reddit User TimFromTheBeach announces the discovery of the secret cow level found in Diablo. This secret level has been an in-joke from buy diablo 2 resurrected items. Though tooltips suggested that such a concept didn't exist at all players could easily find the way to a secret location in Diablo where they would fight the bipedal, axe-wielding cows.
