The first Diablo was a success beyond all expectations
During the panel, Max Schaefer revealed that Condor was a signer to create the original Diablo cost $300.000. This was "woefully inadequate." The Schaefers and Brevik quit Blizzard following Diablo was released, and then began to build new studios and develop new projects. Brevik was in a variety of jobs at various studios during his career post-Blizzard. One of his most notable new posts was as director of Gazillion Entertainment, which made Marvel Heroes. Then, he started his own company, Graybeard Games, which is currently developing an AR game called It Lurks Below. This week it was announced to be available for Xbox One, in addition to PC.
Max Schaefer now heads up Echtra Games, which is developing the recently delayed Torchlight Frontiers, while Erich Schaefer was the one who created Double Damage Games, which launched Rebel Galaxy in 2018.
Brevik stated that he views his ARPG category as one that has plenty of potential to develop and develop over time. Brevik said he could see elements of MMOs and ARPGs merging to create an entirely new type of games that are more social driven, with players working together to fight bosses that resemble raids, as well as other cooperative elements. He added that Gazillion attempted to create a bit of this through Marvel Heroes, but unfortunately the game was closed at the end of 2017.
